Sometimes waiting for your clients is not such a bad thing. In fact, it never is because we usually plan a bit earlier than the ideal light…and sometimes magical things happen before they arrive. If they are an hour late, then many magical things can happen and I am ready to capture them. This kid is gonna be the next goal keeper for Brazil’s national team….I just know it. Maybe I can recruit him for Team USA.

Liliane’s Beautiful Black Cat….enjoying a rainy day. This was actually taken on the day we shot Marina and François’ engagement session but the rain was a bit too much in the beginning. Look at the stunning light! Everyone thinks that rain clouds are bad for photography when in fact the opposite is true.

This is a photo from my old project of MPB performers. I began this work when I lived in Belo Horizonte and it stemmed from my love of music…from my love of a variety of Brazilian music. The fact that I heard a lot of these artists for the first time on the actual day of the show itself was thrilling beyond words. And each artist never failed to live up to expectations. Back in 2002, I didn’t even know how to pronounce a lot of their names correctly! I remember being very impressed with Ze Ramalho’s voice….the power of his guitar playing. I also got a kick out of all the screaming women shouting out “Lindooooooooooo!” After hearing his music….I understood why. Great musician! On the technical side, it is funny how film has a very different quality about it…there is just no denying that classic grain…and dust spots. I shot this photo at about 1600 iso pushing my Fuji neopan two stops. Perfect lighting. And I developed the film in my homemade darkroom. Que Saudades…

Great coincidence…my love for shooting weddings and shooting birds clash in a mad dash to get the best possible photos of Marina and François. Wisdom…that is what the owl stands for, and there is nothing more wise than marrying the one you love!

I love photographing wedding rehearsals. Besides giving me a chance to get to know the friends and family of the bride and groom before the Main Event, opportunities arise where I can document things that might not be documentable on the wedding day itself. In this case…Marina and François…the wedding took place at night…making this daylight shot impossible.
